Hello World!

This is JAZZSPIN, a Utah Jazz Blog.

As we begin our story, the Jazz are 35-23 (3.5 back of Denver in the Northwest and tied for 7th in the Western Conference - 12.5 games back of the Lakers).  The Jazz are currently riding a 6 game win streak and are playing with a full roster for the first time all season. Utah Jazz owner Larry H. Miller died last week and his funeral is taking place today followed by Jazz vs. Kings tonight. It has been a tough season for the Jazz physically, emotionally and on the court (particularly on the road) but this team has potential and there is no telling where this season will lead.

Background

I am your JAZZSPIN host, Billy Lea.  I am a web developer… I am NOT a writer but I am a lifelong Jazz fan… so this may be a bit rough to start out but I am confident that I’ll find my way.  This site has been in the works for many years really, I actually started a short-lived site in 2004 (Jazznation.net) that was a Utah Jazz blog before I, or nearly anyone, knew what a blog was. JAZZSPIN is built on WordPress, which makes posting, maintaining, customizing, etc. easy and enjoyable… far better/easier than it was in 2004.

Gameplan

Not exactly sure where this site will end up but I have many ideas in mind.  As a Jazz fan, I know what information I crave and seek-out on a daily basis and I am guessing that many other Jazz fans are similar to me. As a web developer, I have some interesting ideas to make this a great fan experience.  My skills are in WordPress development, PHP/MySQL, jQuery, etc., which can build some pretty cool things. Some of these ideas may surface a week from now, a month from now, or two years down the road.

The Blogosphere

I am hardly the first to start a sports team blog and I am hardly the first to start a Utah Jazz blog.  I am just looking to add to the Jazz and NBA fan community and I am not looking to put anybody out of business.

As far as the Jazz go, there is:  SLC Dunk, the great Salt Lake Tribune Jazz Blog by Ross Siler and Steve Luhm, Jazzfanz (forums), All That Jazz, Jazzbots (Official Utah Jazz blog community), Jazzfanatical, the Cowhide Globe, Jazzardous Materials and True Blue Jazz.

For other NBA and sports blogs, I look often look to: Truehoop by Henry Abbott on ESPN, ClipperBlog (Clippers), Forum Blue and Gold (Lakers), Hornets247 (Hornets),  Golden State of Mind (Warriors) and Deadspin (All Sports).

And that is the beginning of JAZZSPIN… Go Jazz!
